Easy to Forget

Oh hey, it's been three months, maybe I'll post something on here for a change!

You know, it's funny; every few weeks something would remind me of KatersOneSeven, and I'd realize to myself how I went from watching her videos every single day, even looking forward to them, all the way to rarely even thinking or caring about her.  I checked her channel just now, and there's only been a dozen uploads since her big middle finger to the internet.  I can't bring myself to care enough to watch them, since I'm sure it would just be a lot more facepalming and eye rolling.  If anything relevant even happened, give me the cliff notes version.  Actually, in some of the comments here, somebody mentioned that she's pregnant and that they're going to get married, but I would question that solely on the basis of a) her not wanting to mess up her California girl image and career, and b) that costs money, which she would rather blow on her dog and herself.  But who knows.

I've lost interest in a lot of Youtube in general, actually.  I still watch some automotive and gaming channels though.  Since it's spring time, various motorcycle vloggers have started coming out of hibernation, but I haven't had quite enough time or interest to watch everybody that I was into last year.  I still enjoy people like Boogie2988 though with his opinions on various topics, along with his Francis rants of course.  And I've been facepalming quite a bit from the Yogscast guys, as a matter of fact.  If you haven't heard of them, it's basically a network of Youtube channels of people who play various games, with the core group having a focus that seems oriented on Minecraft.

That's as good a topic as any, actually.  Yogscast.  People who have over a million subscribers, are paid lots of money just to play games, yet they put absolutely no research into how to actually do it.  They've become so content in being able to just upload a video and get thousands of automatic views that they don't seem to really care what they film anymore.  I don't know if any of you watch them, or play Minecraft and/or its mods, so I'll try my best to explain this.  One of Yogscast's most popular series was Tekkit, based around the Minecraft modpack (a collection of mods from various developers) with the same name.  It had a good mix of humor, plot, and building, and lasted for almost a hundred episodes.  When it eventually ended, people had liked it so much that they kept asking for it to continue, or to start a new one of some kind.

Around that time, they started a new series called Voltz, again based on a Minecraft modpack of the same name, both of which under the Technic umbrella of modpacks.  Voltz started out well, had some amusing episodes, until gradually it seemed like they were cheating and fibbing to orchestrate scenes for the audience rather than playing the game legitimately.  At first I didn't mind too much, because it could be pretty entertaining, but eventually I felt more and more like it was just being misleading.  It also became more and more apparent that they didn't really know what they were doing, and wouldn't check the various wikis out there which would have helped them figure something out within moments, bumbling around on camera forever instead.  But they still made pretty decent progress and people liked it.

Several episodes into Voltz, they introduced the new Jaffa Factory series, which was a direct continuation of Tekkit, but with a whole new modpack of their own under the FTB umbrella now instead of Technic.  This alone caused fanboys to freak out in comments, because Tekkit vs FTB is like ATI vs Nvidia to them, except that these modpacks are literally publicly-available mods developed by people not directly affiliated with either modpack, simply using different front-end launchers to start the game, making it a completely moot argument.  Yogscraft (their FTB modpack) used updated versions of all the very outdated mods from Tekkit, and various new ones.

But suddenly the Yogscast gang were like deer in headlights, even with the mods they should have been familiar with.  They weren't making any progress, they couldn't figure anything out, there was no kind of plot development or plan, and every episode is basically twenty minutes of them trying to figure out how to make things and usually not even managing to do that.  Ten episodes in and they still had no shelter whatsoever, despite tons of items available (cheated in and otherwise), despite the original Tekkit series having had ten times the progress and having started from nothing.

Meanwhile, the Voltz series also seems to have been quietly migrated to an FTB-based server, probably a combined Yogscraft and Ampz pack, because despite still calling it Voltz, it has at least over half a dozen mods which don't belong.  With the addition of these extra mods, they're now a deer in headlights yet again, trying to use these other mods' features but not really accomplishing a whole lot.  But at least they're still motivated by the fact that it's one team versus another team, as opposed to one big clusterfuck like in Jaffa Factory.

It's all fairly frustrating to watch, to be honest, because a) how the hell can a group of people have played Minecraft mods for this long and still not know the basics, and b) how the hell can you get paid so much money and yet put so little effort into planning your content?  They still make some pretty funny content, such as when they play Garry's Mod, but it seems to all be becoming few and far between.  The only reason the Garry's Mod stuff is funny is because they're playing with stuff that they didn't even make, with their lack of prior experimentation resulting in some amusing results in that case.  The comments on Jaffa Factory, on the other hand, are overwhelmingly negative, asking for more Voltz or trying to tell them how to play the game.  I don't think they even look at comments anymore, though.  Why would you need to when you get that many views without even trying?

Anyway, enough about Minecraft.  Maybe somebody will actually know what I'm talking about!  Otherwise, all you need to know is that it's pretty much another case of success going to peoples' heads, as far as I'm concerned.

You make some interesting points about the Yogscast. I usually watch PaulSoaresJr for minecraft stuff. He's really fun, informative, and deserves more subs than he has. However, I do enjoy some of the Yogs crew more than others. I like Zoey and Rythian because they RP and their joint series are well thought out. The above mentioned also seem to be part of a more mature set of gaming channels that remain fun without being vulgar or obnoxious (see Pewdie & Tobygames).

4:57pm cont.
As far as Katers is concerned, I look at her past vlogs for nostalgia but that's about all. There is not much in the way of content on either of her channels anymore that holds my interest. Which is sad because I was at least expecting for her to make good on the promise of MAIN channel (Katers17) content that she mentioned was in the works. It's a bit of a Lonelygirl15 thing where the viewers are betrayed because it wasn't genuine. I guess it just goes to show that when personality is taken out of the equation being pretty isn't enough to keep people interested.
I think some of her viewers might be watching because they are gluttons for punishment or naive. Either way she and Cory will be getting a bit more noteworthy from the doc. that Corey Vidal is doing and ect.

Yeah, I also completely lost interest in what Katers & Leech are doing. Same with Shaytards.
But if you enjoy watching Minecraft/gaming videos, maybe check out the guys from the Mindcrack server. They're all very down-to-earth YouTubers making interesting and fun Minecraft (and most of them also other gaming) content. I'll include a link to their subreddit with all the members' links on the right side of the screen. My personal favorites are ethoslab, BdoubleO100, VintageBeef, and the founder of the server himself, Guude (that laugh, man! haha). http://www.reddit.com/r/mindcrack/

Hope you enjoy!

Its great to see you posting again! I stopped watching Kate too, I had begun to question if she was being honest and was actually a nice person but the whole middle finger to the internet thing was it for me. I only really watch CTFxC and Markiplier. Markiplier is a fairly unknown youtuber, but hes super funny and does a ton of work for charity. You should check him out.

What actually happened with the sunglasses saga in the end? Last I saw was that first court date and around then I stopped watching as much as I was busy.

I'm still in two minds about her; on the one hand she does sometimes come across as a nice girl. On the other hand, she's rather naive about a lot of things. I also find it a tiny bit discouraging that she never discourages her fans from sending her stuff. Cory always insists on letters only; no money, no gifts. Whereas she gets like a giddy girl everytime she gets mail. I don't know where she keeps it all!

Also (and this was a while ago; I dont know what shes like now) but for someone saying she's tight on money she sure does eat out a lot. I mean I know america can be cheap for things like that but surely its still cheaper to cook yourself?!

I stopped watching Kate after the "Eff you guys" vlog. I don't bother to even check in on her channel, I'm sure it's nothing but a bunch of videos of her dog.

I kind of lost touch with Minecraft vloggers because it all just seemed the same to me and I even stopped playing Minecraft because I just lost interest in it. Yogscast was pretty cool for a while, but again, it all just seemed to run together and seem like the "same shit, different day" scenario. The only type of MC vids I like watching are ones where people build really awesome things like villages/towns or giant castles.

The only vloggers I bother myself with watching now are the bread-n-butter daily vloggers; CTFxC, BFvsGF ~ and various people I've made friends with over the years on Youtube, who also make daily vlogs.

Stopped watching Shaytards after they announced they MIGHT be quitting the daily vlogs and I saw a comment they posted on that video as to WHY they were stopping, saying if each video got 10,000 likes, they would vlog until they had grandkidtards... but right now they feel like "not enough people were connecting with them." 150,000+ views per Shaytards video, if my daily vlogs got that many views, I wouldn't question turning my back on those people.

I totally agree with everything you have said especially about Kate!
I lost interest in her and its sad bvecause i really liked her videos but now all I see is aselfish girl taking her audience, the people who basically pay her, for granted! she ignores them and moans about them! her JOB is to vlog her life and if she dosn't want to because of "privicy" she should leave youtube!
she dosnt deserve the recognition and popularity she has.
I went back after hearing from my friend that something had happened and they have gotten engaged... although they havnt actually told their viewers. just a pretentious video showing them hugging and kissing with a ring on her finger (i love affection in a relationship i just dont want to see it thrust down my throat evvery video) the comments on every video since has been asking how and what happend, questions they have both ignored although kate has made a point to call Corey her Fiance now dedikaters feel even more alienated and excluded! Her vlogs are now a simple 5min video about what shes eating around long clips of her ridiculous dog and clips of her trouble battle of her hair colour! because that is truely the hardest part of life! she needs to grow up! shes only ever youtubed and is a spoilt brat because of it! she needs to learn this is her job and to respect those who give her the life she has!! im so sad becaus i loved her videos! but seeing the person she is today is upsetting! her and corey need to stop alienating people and to learn to be individuals and not so bloody needy! their the worst couple ive ever seen!! independence people!!

Corey made a vlog today that they broke up, I have my guesses of why but they'll try their hardest to keep that hush hush I'm sure.

I completely see where you're coming fom with the Yogscast thing. Their Tekkit series was okay at the start but lasted too long as well as the Jaffa Factory. However, you have to remember a lot of their views began with Shadow of Israphel (which was a great series in my own opinion).
Tekkit/Jaffa Factory was mainly with Simon, Lewis, Duncan and Sips and Sjin I think. I love Sjin's "Lets Build" series and "Sjindie games".
Whereas I enjoy these guys' humor, I really love Hannah's content and personality/humor. She doesn't play Minecraft that much (the other members don't play Minecraft all the time either, but they do most of the time) and Hannah does research with games she reviews. For example, her Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us gameplays were well done.

Do we know why they split up? I've only just heard about this!
